Reports To: Purchasing Manager
Buyer position is responsible for developing and managing supplier
relationships in a manner that will ensure that high quality material,
equipment and services are available and aligned with the requirements of the company. This position will lead supplier selection
efforts and negotiate supplier contracts in a manner consistent with the
objectives of the company and within established company guidelines and
parameters. This position will have
responsibility for managing operations programs aimed at achieving cost
reduction goals and for participating in programs aimed at improving supplier
quality and delivery performance. This
position will also be accountable for resolving systemic supplier quality and
is responsible for planning, purchasing, and monitoring supplier performance
for assigned products. This position is responsible for managing inventory to
meet our customer service objectives with the least amount of inventory and
least possible costs. This position will have replenishment responsibility for
selected suppliers and materials, and will determine safety stock and inventory
levels for selected suppliers. This position is further
responsible for the timely planning and scheduling of the receipt and inventory
control of the products and services as assigned consistent with ERP software
Buyer will work in close coordination with design and manufacturing
engineering, accounting, production control, and customer service. This position will handle the day-to-day
activities involved in planning and executing within the ERP manufacturing
planning system. Successful planning will create the proper inventory
investment to achieve the company’s cash-flow expectations.
The Buyer will be responsible for
strategic-to-tactical projects, assignments and other duties as assigned. This position will help identify best practices
across sites, develop and implement business process improvements, train and
improve utilization of ERP tools, and support operations with analytics and
analysis. This role will be called upon
to directly support improvement initiatives including cost savings projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiates purchase orders and revisions for
parts, services and/or special tools; arranges for submission and
inspection of sample products as required; maintains close coordination
with design and plant engineering to ensure timely execution of product
and services sourcing activities.
- Secures and analyzes quotations, negotiates
prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to
cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Studies market prices and trends, engineering
developments, and manufacturing method improvements applicable to assigned
responsibilities; advises company activities with concurrence of the Purchasing
- Interviews and confers with current and
prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation
logistics, inventory control, and management; negotiates prices and delivery
terms with guidance from the Purchasing Manager for assigned
responsibilities. Actively search for secondary or multiple sources.
- Coordinates as appropriate quality matters
and engineering changes/developments between company activities and

Education AND Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain or related
- 5+ years in a
Supply Chain Management field preferred.
- Six Sigma (Green
Belt or Black Belt) preferred.
- Strong financial management skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
