Job Title:          Service Parts Planner

Location:          Garner, IA

Department:    Production Control

Reports To:       Production Control Manager


Summary:   Responsible for establishing shipping dates and planning production to support service parts sales. Candidate will be required to forecast service parts schedule production & ensure the efficient movement of materials to meet those schedules. Interface with customer service, production control, purchasing, manufacturing, shipping/receiving, assembly groups, manufacturing/design engineering.


We are looking for a qualified Service Parts Planner to coordinate production according to demand. To ensure our products are scheduled and produced on time.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform forecasting, scheduling and planning activities for service parts.
  • Work with shipping department to coordinate product shipments prior to and after order completion.
  • Process changes as required.
  • Assign and maintain proper planning parameters in accordance with company objectives for current products and products under development.
  • Research exception messages relative to nightly MRP (Material Requirements Planning) regeneration.
  • Manage / control disciplines such as customer service order entry and availability.
  • Assist with reducing the impact of obsolete inventory by working with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and sales on product phase out or product improvements.
  • Make recommendations and assist with buffer inventory stocking levels, maintaining mix and quantity changes as required.
  • Work with customer service and sales to identify stocking levels and availability.
  • Manage and maintain service parts forecast.
  • Cross train with Production Control Staff for planned and unplanned absences in respective roles & responsibilities.
  • Primary backup to Production Control staff.
  • Continually strive to improve in all aspects of job requirements.
  • Assist to enhance / develop dealer service parts stocking programs.
  • Develop and submit delivery status performance reports.
  • Single point of contact for customer service parts support.
  • Act as a positive role model for all co-workers
  • Promote a productive and non-disruptive work ethic within the company.
  • Continuously promotes and fosters a culture of working safety.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Possess or work towards becoming CPIM Certified (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) through APICS (The Association for Operations Management).
  • Knowledge of production planning.
  • Understanding of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Apply continuous improvement practices utilizing supply chain management and lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Possess solid analytical skills in forecasting and anticipating production needs and capabilities.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations.
  • Computer literacy applied to scheduling and data management.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and a participant in our “Team Stellar” environment achieving the highest rating of internal and external customer satisfaction.


Preferred Experience:

  • MRP II (Manufacturing Resource Planning)
  • MRP (Material Requirements Planning)


Skills Required:

  • Computer Proficient with the ability to work fluently with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of statistics is required with general numeracy, coupled with good interpersonal skills. 


Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree and 1 to 2 years of experience in a production planning/materials controls function or equivalent combination of education and experience such as a broad manufacturing background of 3 to 5 years.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.


Training Requirements:

  • General Safety.
  • Epicor ERP System Utilization.


Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit or stand, and move about the facility.
  • Required to read documents and computer screens.


Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety Glasses & Proper Footwear


Work Environment:

  • Usual office working conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.


Additional Requirements:

  • Company sponsored continuing education may be required.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
